PERITONEAL DIALYSIS
Responding to a critical need – an epidemic of diabetes in the Palestinian Territories leading to renal failure and hospital-based dialysis services – Project Rozana’s three-year, $170,000 per annum, project is training Palestinian health professionals in the provision of peritoneal dialysis in the West Bank.
Peritoneal dialysis can be administered at home and is suitable for patients with early stages of renal failure. It can relieve pressure on existing hospital dialysis infrastructure and can improve quality of life, avoid multiple hospital visits and enable travel abroad, liberating the patient from the obligation to spend three days a week in hospital.
The project is being undertaken by Professor Adi Leiba through an Agreement with Assuta Hospital in Ashdod working with medical teams from Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem.
